Antarctica

This is a "must do" trip. The Falklands is part of this trip but it only three hours on Bleaker. So, I really do not count this as an real visit. Please refer to the Falklands gallery where I was there for two full weeks.The ship I was on is called the Akademik Sergei Vavilov. Everybody had a great time on this trip which included fantastic landscapes and impressive wildlife photography.
There is separate gallery for South Georgia and Elephant islands.

  • As the front one distracted the parent, the back Skua grabbed the chick.
  • Skuas grabbed the chick. The Gentoo chick tried to defend itself but it is no match with the Skuas. The parent just gave up; made no attempt to rescue the chick.
  • The Skuas killed the chick. It was a sad scene to watch the chick move slower and slower until no movement. This is the bad side of Mother nature but remember the Skuas have to feed their young.
