Mavericks Noncontest
the 2018-2019 season is about to close on March 31st, 2019. They almost called the contest in December.
This is a very tough shoot as I was getting sick from the swells. Shooting from a rocking boat is no fun.
But, the shooting was cleaner with only two boats, no Coast Guards and Sheriff boats, and most important- no rotation. During the contest. the boats were forced to rotate in a counter clockwise fashion so each boat has a chance to shoot but you will miss the action when your boat is away and you are in constant motion. Any boat which stops will be pulled out of the rotation by the Coast Guard and placed in a "penalty box" for a period of time which will piss off the photographers.
Because it was a non contest, the boat ride was cheaper and the shoot much easier so it was a win-win situation for the photographers.
